Summary: By 1876, most of the nation's American Indians had been forcibly relocated to reservation land. In the Dakota Territory, Red Cloud had settled his people on the great Sioux Reservation, becoming wards of the government. Other Sioux leaders saw this as defeat and continued to live in the traditional way, with legendary resistance. Then an economic depression struck, and gold was discovered in the Black Hills--on Sioux land. In this film, the lives of Charles Eastman-a Dartmouth-educated, Sioux doctor; Senator Henry Dawes-member of the Committee on Indian Affairs; and Sitting Bull intersect in a manner that seems fated. The question that faces the government and the Sioux seems to leave two answers: assimilation versus extermination? It is answered by the assassination of Sitting Bull and the massacre of hundreds of Indian men, women, and children by the 7th Cavalry at Wounded Knee Creek on Dec. 29, 1890.

Director: Ron Shelton
Writer: Ron Shelton
Actor: Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Wuhl, Lolita Davidovich, Lou Myers, Bradley Whitford, Stephen Mendillo, Eloy Casados, William Utay, J. Kenneth Campbell, Tommy Bush
Summary: Set in 1960, 'Cobb,' is a series of duets between two men. Tyrus Raymond 'Ty' Cobb and Al Stump. 'The Georgia Peach,' while perhaps the greatest baseball player who ever lived, was also a racist, a wife-beater, and probably a killer. Stump was a sportswriter with the job of a lifetime--a biography with full access to the principal. Cobb envisions the book as his way of controlling how history sees him, a piece of self-serving, glorifying hogwash. Stump wants the real story, which Cobb (who's wrangled editorial approval) insists Stump cannot include. Stump writes the book Cobb wants, while secretly making notes for his own unvarnished biography. Stump published his version in 1994, and in keeping with its conclusions, the film dares to voice a truth most people regard as unwelcome: Sometimes greatness has nothing to do with goodness.
